Chinese smartphone maker company Xiaomi just released their latest iPhone X look-alike device with a nametag of Xiaomi Mi 8. Xiaomi smartphones are known for providing the best features in an affordable price range. This feature of Xiaomi drives huge customer base and sales throughout the year. Now cheap and affordable doesn’t mean that it is going to last forever.
Is Xiaomi Mi 8 Waterproof Device?
Official Xiaomi Mi 8 comes with no waterproofing trademark out of the box. However, with close inspection with the headset, its found that the device is at least splash resistant to some extent. But this is not enough to know the full extent of its waterproofing capabilities. It is important to know for customers whether they are buying a proper waterproofing device or not. Xiaomi Mi 8 Splash Proof Test
When Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone is subjected to few water droplets, the device starts behaving strangely. It starts accepting ghost touches; device screen becomes uncontrollable. However, it gets okay once the water droplets get evaporated or wiped out by the use of a microfiber cloth. However, no water goes inside the device itself in this splash proof test. So the device seems to be splash resistant however it becomes un-usable for few minutes as water droplets create hindrance in detecting touch inputs.

When subjected to shower water, the device started to trigger apps because of ghost touch issue. The camera and screen work perfectly under water, however, the user can’t operate the screen under water. This questions the functionality of Mi 8 under water. This means a user can not take a picture while swimming or can take calls while showering.
I/O Ports Water Test
It appears that all I/O ports work perfectly after a water immersion test. However, you can not use them while the device is in water. This includes the power button, volume rocker button, mic and charging port. Using them while the device is in water will cause the water to go inside the device, and it will eventually harm the device overall performance.
Additionally, no fog or moisture appears near camera lens or touchscreen itself. This indicates that the device is still operational after Xiaomi Mi Waterproof test.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Water Immersion Test
When the device is subjected to complete water immersion, small bubbles start to pop up from various I/O points. These include power button & volume rocker buttons indicating the passage of moisture into the device. As we discussed it above that, you can not use the device’s touchscreen under water. After water immersion test is completed, the device was disassembled to check the moisture inside the device. Turns out that within a time period of 2-minute immersion test, the device gets enough moisture to harm various circuit components.
So it turns out that Xiomi latest flagship Mi 8 is not entirely waterproof. It is splashproof to some extent, however, it will cause the device to behave abnormally with several ghost touches. I advise Mi 8 users not to take any risk while dealing with high moisture environments. This might cause your device to malfunction or might get a permanent damage also.
