The Spider-Man Noir comic is about to send an alternate universe Peter Parker into battle against a group of Nazis across entire continents. As part of a five-issue mini-series kicking off in March from writer Margaret Stohl and artist Juan Ferreyra, Spider-Man Noir will chronicle the dark, brooding, noir-inspired version of Spider-Man from a different earth in the years leading up to World War II.
Marvel fans will surely recognize Spider-Man Noir from his movie debut, playing a pivotal role in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated movie that nabbed the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. Voiced by actor Nicolas Cage, Spider-Man Noir joined a main cast of spider-related characters, including Miles Morales as Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman, Spider-Ham, and more in an attempt to save the multiverse. Now, he’s getting his time to shine in the comics, too.
As Marvel’s official solicitations for April have confirmed, Spider-Man Noir #2 tells the tale of the gritty titular character crisscrossing the globe to hunt down the Nazis, after their discovery of an ancient evil entity in one of their numerous archaeological dig sites around the world. Reeling from the death of a person in his friend circle, Spider-Man Noir is on the case, using his detective-based skills and super-human spider abilities in a thriller filled with backstabbing, big-time action and other noir versions of classic Marvel Universe heroes and villains.

Spider-Man Noir made his debut in Spider-Man Noir #1 back in 2009, a four-issue mini-series written by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky with art from Carmine Di Giandomenico. This series was a part of Marvel’s attempt at creating a new, alternative continuity inspired by film noir and pulp magazines that were wildly popular in the early 20th century. Spider-Man Noir #2 is an issue from the character’s second ever solo comic series, after an 11-year absence. Given his appearances in other media, his usage in the original “Spider-Verse” comic book storyline from writer Dan Slott and its sequel, Spider-Geddon, it’s understandable that Marvel wants to continue pushing Spider-Man Noir into the spotlight, and have him stand as one of the top figures in its Spider-Man line of comics.
Marvel has been publishing an increased amount of books featuring spider characters, as April’s releases include a Gwen Stacy mini-series, the iconic Amazing Spider-Man, a Spider-Ham mini series, Spider-Gwen in Ghost-Spider, Miles Morales in his own solo book and the finale issue of a Spider-Verse spin-off series among others. As a character that’s been mostly seen as of late interacting with other spider heroes, it will be a welcomed change to see this Peter Parker on his own globe-trotting adventure in Spider-Man: Noir #2 coming in April 2020.
