A new set photo from IT gives a look at Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise in action. They say that IT comes every 27 years, so with that being the exact time between Tommy Lee Wallace’s original miniseries and Andrés Muschietti’s new adaptation, now seems like the right time for our fear of clowns to come back to the forefront of Hollywood.
Legendary actor Tim Curry took on the part of the murderous clown for 1990’s classic, but this time, it is Hemlock Grove’s Bill Skarsgård who will be sticking on some baggy pants and a red nose. Curry’s performance was both comical and terrifying, based on the chilling trailer it looks like Skarsgård is taking IT down a wholly dark route under Muschietti’s direction.
A new set photo released on Reddit reveals a little more of Pennywise the Dancing Clown and what he has planned for the Losers’ Club. With Skarsgård’s eyes rolling back in his head, it looks like he is in full Pennywise mode, which could spell trouble for whoever is with him in the shot.

The trailer has already shown that on top of being visually different - sporting a more classic harlequin look than Curry’s big top design - new Pennywise will be a far more overtly menacing presence, which this image really attests to.
Muschietti’s horror is scripted by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle) and will adapt the first half of Stephen King’s 1986 novel. IT follows an outcast group of friends affectionately known as the Losers’ Club as they are hunted by an evil entity. While the creature can take many forms, it is best known as pale-skinned Pennywise who lusts for the souls of children. As the death toll rises and Pennywise makes his presence known, the children are forced to confront their biggest fears.
For those suffering from coulrophobia (fear of clowns), don’t expect the madness to end with 2017’s film. Promising to be the first of an intended duo of films, Part 2 is expected to film any day now. The sequel will focus on the children in their adult years battling Pennywise once more.
Hollywood is certainly hyped for IT, with the two-and-a-half minute trailer setting a record for most views in a single day. Although some are calling the iteration of the character too scary, and real-life clowns complaining it could put them out of business, there is no denying that IT will be a major horror event.
