Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Jacob Batalon responds to Spider-Man’s sudden return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The last month or so has been a hectic one for fans of the latest Spider-Man franchise, but also for those who are involved with it. Disney and Sony previously ended the agreement that allowed Tom Holland’s Spidey to be part of the MCU. This initially raised a lot of questions over whether or not the cast would be kept.

Holland confirmed he wasn’t going anywhere, but how exactly his Spider-Man would continue on was unclear. Now, Disney and Sony have come to a new agreement on Spider-Man that will see Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 added to the Phase 4 slate. The news has, unsurprisingly, been met with a lot of excitement from fans, especially after it looked less and less likely that a deal would get done.

Just hours after this deal was announced, Screen Rant had the chance to talk to Jacob Batalon - who plays Ned Leeds in the franchise - about it as part of Sony’s press push for Spider-Man: Far From Home’s home release. He told us just how happy he is to know that the next film will be part of the MCU, even though he and his fellow castmates were ready to do the next film regardless.

Batalon received his breakout role as Peter’s best friend and guy in the chair in Spider-Man: Homecoming and is one of the only cast members from the franchise to have a noticeable role outside of the solo series. He appeared briefly in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, so Spidey’s return to the MCU could mean similar cameos in other films too. But, Batalon’s response also goes to show that even the actors involved with the franchise thought that opportunity had passed.

I’m really happy. I think we were all really set and ready to go with Sony, we were ready to move on and do the third one just with them, but we’re more than happy to work with Marvel again.

Of course, Batalon is far from the only actor involved with the franchise to respond positively to this news. Holland hilariously shared his reaction to the news on social media, using the now-famous “I’m not leaving” scene from The Wolf of Wall Street to illustrate his thoughts. Other members of the franchise like Zendaya and Tony Revolori have shared enthusiastic gifs on social media as a response to the deal. With Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 confirmed for a 2021 release date, it won’t even be that long before they’re all back on set of the next MCU Spider-Man solo movie.
