Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau are taking a break after a difficult start to their marriage. The announcement of their split comes days after a shocking online admission by Mongeau that the couple was struggling in their relationship.
The video, titled, “the truth about everything” showcased Mongeau in a pensive diatribe riddled with cheating accusations and admissions of her own self-loathing. She spoke of the unhappiness the marriage has produced in both the bride and groom. She also accused her husband of changing within minutes of exchanging their vows. On July 28, Paul, 22, and Mongeau, 21, gathered a group of their friends and headed to Las Vegas for a sensational, raucous, live-streamed wedding. Detractors quickly criticized the couple for saying, “I do,” just two months into their romantic relationship. Not only that, but their nuptials proved to be a circus with Paul attacking a guest for dousing him and his bride with wine during their ceremony.
Finally, on January 3, in a long stream of social media posts (via: People), Mongeau wrote:
Despite their decision to split, Mongeau went on to clarify that the couple’s break is coming from a place of love, so there’s no need to speculate about their relationship. However, it may be hard for people not to form opinions about the internet-famous couple, given the bride’s overwhelming honesty about their problems. Although Mongeau has since admitted that their 2019 wedding was not legally binding, it’s still taken its toll on her emotionally. She took issue with Paul’s friendship and alleged affair with his ex Erika Costell, and even mentioned that her own past relationships (with Bella Thorne and Lil’ Xan, among others) have contributed to her personal issues.
“Ok I don’t rly know how to do a ‘we’re taking a break’ post & this is weird as f—… I’m happy to still be able to sit with Jake and laugh as we do this — but for now we both are taking a break to focus on our own crazy lives…” She continued: “I’ll never know what the future holds and I will always love Jake and everything we did. I’m grateful to know throughout this I’ve made a best friend for life & found someone to do life with when no one understood me,” finalizing her post with, “Here’s to 2020, working on us, and my new Lamborghini since I get half of everything!” Mongeau joked.
It’s not at all surprising that Paul and Mongeau called it quits. Her 40-minute confessional about the couple’s relationship pretty much spelled doom for them. Given the fact that both of them are in their 20s, this is probably a good thing. They can rebound with other YouTube stars, or former Disney kids, or just enjoy plain, old-fashioned fans who would love to be the next notch on their respective bed posts. It seems likely that Mongeau and Paul will cycle in and out of each other’s lives as the years progress; this is that crazy type of first love that just can’t be shaken. However, for now, it look’s like the soon-to-be-ex Mrs. Paul can finally start the healing process and clear her head once and for all.
