The fan-favorite former Dancing with the Stars contestant James Van Der Beek posted a touching photo of his wife after their tragic miscarriage. The actor wrote a message about how the heartbreaking experience gave him a “newfound gratitude” for his wife.
James was shot into stardom when he landed the main role of Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek - a popular 90’s teen drama series. He then went on to star in bigger TV shows and movies. James was a leading contestant on Dancing with the Stars, where he was partnered up with dance pro, Emma Slater. During the show, the father of five excitedly shared the news with fans that he and his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek were expecting baby number 6, However, the same day that James was kicked off the competition, he revealed to fans that his wife had tragically lost the baby. The elimination and news shook the Dancing with the Stars nation.
Though it’s been a troubling time for James and his family, the couple spent the Thanksgiving holiday enjoying one and other’s company and remembering what they are grateful for. Under the artistic picture of Kimberly, James wrote a lengthy post about what his wife means to him. He began the post, “In a place of newfound gratitude to have [Kimberly] in this world today.” He said, “Got really scary for a minute there,” referring to the miscarriage of his 6th child and almost claimed the life of his wife. He continued the post by revealing that he’s “never been so open (especially with tragedy) as I’ve been these last few weeks.” James continued to tell his Instagram followers how thankful he is for them, and for all who have “responded with love and support and prayers and shared your own stories.” This isn’t the first time Kimberly and James have lost a baby, they revealed that this is the fourth miscarriage the two have experienced together.
As heartbreaking as the holidays are this year for this mourning couple, both James and Kimberly are remaining hopeful of the future and most importantly thankful for all they have been given. It’s a gentle reminder to fans that oftentimes life doesn’t turn out according to plan and it’s part of the journey. Now that James is on the radar for his outstanding dancing on Dancing with the Stars, who knows what will be next for him. The possibilities are endless.
