Jason Momoa jokingly says that Warner Bros. may have just fired him over his comments about Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League. It’s almost two years since the film debuted in theaters, and yet the movement to release the so-called Snyder Cut is still thriving. Recently, the Aquaman actor (who is also one of its highest-profile proponents) once again reiterated why it needs to be released, which is why he’s “worried” that he may be booted from the DCEU.

The Release the Snyder Cut movement was born shortly after Justice League rolled out. It’s essentially a campaign demanding Warner Bros. to release the original cut of the film with Junkie XL’s score (the original composer before Danny Elfman stepped in). While Snyder received sole directing credit for the film, it was really Joss Whedon who had final say on what ended up on the big screen, having helmed its extensive reshoots. Despite the on-going calls for this, however, there’s still no indication that Warner Bros. is planning to heed to these requests.

This is why, immediately after Momoa made his stance clear about whether or not the Snyder Cut needs to be released, he made a joke about Warner Bros. potentially firing him from playing Arthur Curry in Aquaman 2. During an interview with MTV News for his latest project, See from Apple TV+, host Josh Horowitz asked the actor about the sequel to which he kiddingly replied: “I might be fired now.” He was clearly playing around so it made for a good funny bit, but he eventually became serious when talking about how much he loves playing the DC superhero.

Among the six heroes that Snyder introduced to the DCEU, Momoa’s Aquaman is only one of the two heroes remaining who have a clear future in the Warner Bros.’ superhero franchise - the other one being Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Both have sequels set to arrive in the future, in the forms of Wonder Woman 1984 and Aquaman 2. Ben Affleck (Batman) is officially out, while the individual statuses of Henry Cavill (Superman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) are all in limbo. It’s possible fans will never get to see those three versions of the characters back together on the big screen, following Justice League’s box office disappointment

Momoa has long supported the Release the Snyder Cut movement, saying he owes the director his career. Considering that the filmmaker cast him as Aquaman despite the obvious deviation from the character’s classic comic book look, this certainly holds true. However, it’s safe to say that with Aquaman earning more than $1 billion at the global box office, there’s very little chance that Warner Bros. will actually fire him for simply expressing his opinions about Justice League and Snyder (which he always does in a very respectful manner).
