Jason Momoa made a cameo in a recent episode of Saturday Night Live. The Aquaman actor previously hosted the show last December. This SNL season 45 episode was hosted Chance the Rapper, who also filled in as the musical guest.

While fans have to wait another few years to see Momoa take on the role of Arthur Curry once again, he soon can be seen in the upcoming Apple TV+ series See, debuting on November 1. The show follows the survivors of an apocalyptic event that left everyone blind. Hundreds of years later, a pair of twins are born with the ability to see and Momoa stars as their father. His appearance on SNL is then, presumably, an attempt to garner the series a bit of attention.

The SNL Twitter account posted the clip of Momoa’s appearance during the sketch “Judge Barry”. During that sketch, Chance the Rapper plays an old judge presiding over “First Impressions” court, where he must give his judgment based on his first impression of the case. Kate McKinnon plays an elderly woman suing her live-in nurse for stealing from her. Momoa emerges next as Apollo Benz, said nurse - and, it is revealed, male gigolo - to shocked laughter and applause.

Momoa’s appearance was a clear hit with the audience and Chance, who visibly struggled not to break character. Momoa himself had a breaking moment, where he flubbed one of his lines. Instead of saying he is a certified “paralegal,” he momentarily says “paraplegic.” He nearly bursts out laughing, but admirably recovers a moment later and carries on with the sketch without issue. The break only serves to make his appearance more hilarious.

It is always amusing to see the SNL hosts and cast members breaking character, showing that they are having just as much fun as the audience. SNL alum Bill Hader is especially notorious for this, and his breaking character moments rank among some of the show’s most iconic. Momoa, who became a household name after playing Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, has a knack for brooding, serious characters, but he has real comedic chops as well. Pairing him with fan favorite McKinnon was also an excellent choice. She can always be expected to deliver the big laughs.

Momoa’s appearance serves as a delightful surprise for unsuspecting viewers, even if they are often treated to cameos from big named celebrities. Recent weeks have seen Lin-Manuel Miranda, Matthew Broderick, and Woody Harrelson all make quick cameos during the show. SNL’s next host will be Kristen Stewart on November 2.
