Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order might be getting a sequel, according to information gathered from developer Respawn Entertainment’s latest job postings. Released earlier this year and almost unanimously considered to be one of the best Star Wars video games in recent years, Jedi: Fallen Order provided players with a world-jumping third-person adventure set in the Star Wars universe, and although the game tended to lean too heavily into climbing segments and unnecessary cosmetic upgrades many fans were simply happy to have a complete, microtransaction-free EA Star Wars experience.
Following the story of Cal Kestis, a former Jedi padawan who went into hiding after the infamous “Order 66” was executed during the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Jedi: Fallen Order melds a Dark Souls-lite style combat system with the exploration mechanics of games like Uncharted and the Tomb Raider series in order to give the impression of fluid, Jedi-like gameplay. Despite some performance issues at launch which required later patching, both critics and fans seemed to appreciate Respawn’s take on the Star Wars franchise, and now it’s beginning to look as if the company is prepping themselves for a sequel.
According to a report by GamesRadar, multiple EA job listings have recently been posted online, with three of them being focused on positions within Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Team. These job opportunities (Level Designer, Senior Software Engineer, and Senior Character Artist) are said to be involved with a third-person action/adventure game, and, being that the positions lie within Respawn’s Star Wars umbrella, it doesn’t take take much imagination to connect the dots and assume Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is in the works.
Jedi: Fallen Order was clearly made with a lot of love for the franchise, especially evident when considering all of the Star Wars easter eggs which can be found in the game. Judging by the post-launch public response, it’s no surprise a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order would be quickly given the green light within the studio, although it remains to be seen as to just what exactly such a continuation might entail. EA’s listing for Senior Software Engineer requests someone to help them deliver “a game with fast, responsive controls and fluid gameplay,” which sure sounds like what Jedi: Fallen Order 2 should be.
With the worldwide premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in just a few days marking the end of the Skywalker saga, it will be interesting to see how EA and Respawn Entertainment continue to explore their own adventures within the Star Wars universe. As such an iconic franchise comes to an end, perhaps instead of a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order Respawn is planning on surprising everyone with a remake of the PS2-era Star Wars: Bounty Hunter game, starring The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda escort missions and all.
