Aniston is, of course, best known for role on Friends. Since her days as Rachel Green, Aniston’s resume has become increasingly stacked. Some of Aniston’s most popular movies include Bruce Almighty, He’s Just Not That Into You, and The Switch. Aniston has proven herself time and time again as a comedic actress through these roles, but has also demonstrated her acting range in more serious roles in movies such as Cake (2014). While Cake didn’t perform well at the box office and received mixed critical reviews, critics praised Aniston’s role, and it got her SAG and Golden Globe nominations. Earlier this week, Aniston won a SAG award for Best Actress in a TV Series for The Morning Show.
Right after winning the SAG award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Aniston was interviewed backstage. In a video clip posted on Variety’s Twitter, Aniston is asked, “When it comes to your career, a lot of people want you to go back to things, but moving forward, what do you still need to do?” Aniston replied, “I wanted to be Wonder Woman, but I waited too long.” She continues, stating she has a lot left to do and she feels she is just kicking into a creative stride. “I just discovered a real love of this in a new way that I didn’t know I had before.” She then finishes, stating she wants to do some more comedies, and she’s ready for some laughter. “That was some heavy stuff,” she says in reference to her role as Alex Levy in The Morning Show.
The Morning Show premiered in November on the Apple TV+ streaming service. The show was inspired by a book by journalist Brian Stelter, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. The series deals with concepts such as gender barriers in work settings, and the story unfolds in the midst of a sexual misconduct scandal at the network. The show has parallels to the Matt Lauer misconduct case as well as the #MeToo movement and the Weinstein scandal. In addition to Aniston, the cast includes Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. The show just finished its freshman season in December.
Aniston’s performance in The Morning Show demonstrates she is a talented actress who still has many new heights left to reach, and can carry both dramatic and comedic roles. Apple TV+ subscribers will be able to catch Aniston in The Morning Show season 2, and based on the actress’ own words, fans can expect to see her in new comedies as well. DC has been trying to add more humor and levity to its recent movies like Shazam!, and trailers for the Wonder Woman sequel show a continuation of this idea. Aniston has proven herself in different types of roles, so perhaps she could have made a great Wonder Woman if the timing was right and the opportunity presented itself.
