Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was called out for not being humble amid his sobriety. He then clapped back at the commenter on Instagram over the weekend.
The post pictured him and his wife, Lauren, posing in front of a new Jeep with the caption “Difficult Roads often Lead to Beautiful Destinations.” The commenter was disappointed in what she deemed to be Sorrentino bragging about his life, writing, “Most people do not come out of treatment the way you have!!! I’m happy you have an amazing life. People don’t live like you!! If you want to talk about treatment, maybe you should live humble.”
Sorrentino, who has become known for his success in recovery and overall positive vibe, recently celebrated his fourth year sober. He attributes much of his success to his wife, who has been a constant source of support during the good times and the bad. As with any kind of fame, there are always going to be haters who seek to diminish Sorrentino’s success, both in his personal life and professional career.
Sorrentino took the high road in his response on Instagram (via People), saying “Don’t make a comment about someone’s recovery when you don’t know there [sic] story or what hole they had to dig out of to get where they are now." He went on to justify that his situation (pun intended) is certainly not the norm: “That is true that I have beat the odds and I am living my best life. I am showing anyone watching that you can beat the odds and be successful.” He concluded boldly, advising the hateful commenter to “Stay in [her] own lane and run your own race. You cant be bitter and expect life to be sweet. There is enough out there for all of us. Stay positive.”
Sorrentino was not always this positive. In fact, he was one of the most negative influences during the early seasons of Jersey Shore. When the show first aired, he wasn’t kind to his roommates, the women he would bring back to the shore house, or himself. Later, it came out that he was struggling with an addiction to prescription pain killers, which heavily influenced many of his actions. After several stints in rehab, Sorrentino was able to achieve sobriety.
Despite Sorrentino having to serve eight months in jail for tax evasion, he remains clean and sober. He’s also helping many people strive to get sober for themselves. Despite the naysayers, Sorrentino continues to spread his positive messages, including “living my best life” and “your current situation is not your final destination.” While it’s not certain if Jersey Shore: Family Vacation will return or not, Sorrentino supporters are excited to see what the future brings for him.
