Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi recently shocked the MTV airwaves by announcing that she’s done with Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. Polizzi made the official announcement Friday, December 6, on the podcast she cohosts with friend Joey Camasta, It’s Happening With Snooki & Joey.

Snooki had a busy weekend. She announced her retirement from Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, took her kids to see Santa Claus, and shared a quote to her Instagram Story about starting fresh. The quote read: “You are the author of your story. If you are stuck on the same page, remember that at any moment, you have the power to write a new chapter.”

According to Us Weekly, Polizzi had previously opened up about the hard time she was having with being a full-time mom to three children and a full-time reality television star. The constant drinking and increased levels of drama have become too much for Polizzi to handle, and she no longer feels as though she’s being painted in a favorable light. While the decision was tough, Polizzi’s quote reminded fans that nothing is permanent. If you don’t like something, change it.

She first got her start on the MTV series back in 2009 when she was only 22 years old. Childless and boyfriend-less at the time, Polizzi quickly became reality TV’s favorite meatball. Now, she’s struggling to balance her home life with her roomie life. “I’m still trying to figure that out,” she said, explaining how her family gets when she has to leave to film. “They’re very stressed. I love being here. I love being with the roomies. But at the same time, I miss my newborn, I miss my two kids. So honestly I’m still trying to find that balance.”

Fans were disappointed to learn about Polizzi’s departure from the show, mostly because it feels like this could be the beginning of the end for the Jersey Shore franchise. The reasons for Polizzi’s exit are certainly understandable. From juggling a growing family to running her own boutique, it can be difficult to find the desire to drink to excess and film new episodes of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, especially considering none of these guidos and guidettes bounce back from a hangover like they could ten years ago. Despite her roommates being blindsided by the news, they have been supportive of Polizzi’s decision as well.
