Since his release from prison, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has maintained the healthy workout routine he created behind bars, and he’s proud of it. The Jersey Shore star was released in September after serving eight months for tax evasion.
While he’s had to make a few modifications, Sorrentino is proud of the work that he’s done thus far. Fitness remains a priority for the new and improved guido. Despite his past reputation of being the instigator in the shore house, Sorrentino has made a lot of changes in his life that reflect a new and improved person. That includes his fitness routine.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Sorrentino said “In prison, [I’d work out] between two to three hours a day, sometimes two to three times a day. Morning, noon and night, but eventually I reevaluated it and did it twice a day.” Life outside of prison doesn’t afford Sorrentino the luxury of that much time, but he does still prioritize working out, posting fitness videos regularly to his Tik Tok account. Now that he’s home, workouts are limited to an hour and a half, six days a week. Day seven is a cheat day, of course. He and his wife Lauren have their own YouTube channel dedicated to Eating Our Best Life.
Sorrentino also conceded that he was able to get into the best shape of his life while in prison. He lost 40 pounds during his sentence, converting most of his body mass into pure muscle, but that’s not what he’s most proud of. Instead, Sorrentino is celebrating his ability to take “a negative situation and turned it into a positive.”
An upgraded fitness routine wasn’t the only thing Sorrentino was able to achieve during his sentence. He also maintained his sobriety. Sorrentino has been sober for four years this December - another thing he and his wife can be proud of. Sorrentino reminds friends, family, and fans that “The comeback is always greater than the setback,” remaining open and honest about his journey to get sober and stay sober so as to inspire others to do the same.
Fans are always delighted to watch Sorrentino continue on his sober journey, with many people celebrating all of his achievements - including his post-prison body. There’s something comforting in watching a person who has struggled in the past go through something as difficult as serving time in prison and still come out on top. For many, Sorrentino provides a sense of will. While Sorrentino’s sobriety story is not a common one, it gives many people struggling with addiction the hope that they need to persevere.
