Netflix confirms the Jessica Jones season 3 release date will be in early June, though the exact date is not yet known. When Jessica Jones season 1 premiered in 2015, it was the second series to debut as part of Marvel TV and Netflix’s deal for a whole mini-universe of Marvel Cinematic Universe programming. The first was Daredevil, then Jessica Jones was followed by two other solo series - Luke Cage and Iron Fist - before the four heroes teamed up for The Defenders. The Punisher also joined the universe as a spinoff from Daredevil. However, now Jessica Jones season 3 is the last remnant of Marvel and Netflix’s once-successful partnership.
Starting with the cancellation of Iron Fist, Netflix eventually axed all of its live-action Marvel TV shows, effectively ending the streaming company’s deal with Marvel. After Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil were officially cancelled, shocking fans of the respective series since their most recent seasons were well received. Then, Netflix cancelled The Punisher and Jessica Jones in one fell swoop, though the streamer promised to air the already completed Jessica Jones season 3. Now after The Punisher season 2 debuted in January, Netflix is gearing up to debut Jessica Jones season 3, with a June release window now confirmed.
Netflix released a new video previewing what’s new on the streaming service in the first half of June 2019 and though it doesn’t reveal the exact release date for Jessica Jones season 3, a short clip of Krysten Ritter as the titular character confirms the show will return next month. Netflix did something similar for The Punisher season 2 release, teasing its window before later revealing the exact premiere date. See the Netflix video below, the Jessica Jones segment begins at 3:35.
Since this video covers the first half of June, it’s most likely Jessica Jones season 3 will premiere either Friday June 7 or Friday June 15, with the latter being more likely (if it were the former, we’d probably have a trailer already). Of course, Netflix has been gradually moving away from only releasing content on Fridays, so if the streaming service has decided to debut the final Jessica Jones season on a day of the week other than Friday, there’s no telling when its release date could be. Still, thanks to this video we know Jessica Jones season 3 will release sometime between June 1-15, which means Netflix will be ramping up marketing and fans can expect a trailer soon enough.
As for what fans can expect from Jessica Jones season 3, it’s possible the show will give its titular private eye a more concrete ending than her fellow NYC-based Marvel superheroes. Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all ended on cliffhangers because the showrunners didn’t know the series were ending. While Jessica Jones was cancelled after the show had wrapped filming, it’s possible the series had always planned a satisfying ending due to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg leaving after season 3. Whatever the case, Jessica Jones fans will get to see how her story on Netflix ends when the season premieres early next month.
