She may be best known as the current Doctor Who, but here’s where else you may have seen actress Jodie Whittaker. Jodie Whittaker started her career acting in plays such as The Storm and made guest appearances on British dramas Doctors and Dalziel And Pascoe. Her first big role came with 2006’s Venus, where she co-starred with screen legend Peter O’Toole. She received great reviews for her work in Venus, and more roles in TV movie This Life +10 with Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead) and both St. Trinians movies would follow.

Jodie Whittaker later appeared alongside Viggo Mortensen (The Lord Of The Rings) in disturbing drama Good and Gemma Arterton in 2009 miniseries Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Whittaker would spend much of this period appearing in miniseries like Wired or smaller movies like White Wedding, Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne and Perrier’s Bounty with Cillian Murphy. One of her breakthrough roles came with 2011’s Attack The Block, where she plays a nurse who has to team with a gang that once mugged her to survive an alien invasion in a council estate. Attack The Block became a word of mouth hit and was compared to fun creature features from the 1980s like Gremlins.

Jodie Whittaker would follow up with more film roles like One Day, Ashes and acclaimed Irish drama Good Vibrations, which also starred Richard Dormer (Game Of Thrones). She also appeared in 2011 Black Mirror episode “The Entire History Of You.” In 2013 she joined the cast of dark drama series Broadchurch, with season 1 revolving around the death of a young boy and the search for his killer. Broadchurch received rave reviews for its writing and cast, including Whittaker, David Tennant, and Olivia Colman. The show ran for three seasons and was later remade for American audiences as Gracepoint.

In 2014 Jodie Whittaker starred in ABC miniseries The Assets and gritty British drama The Smoke, which followed the lives of a group of London based firefighters. In 2017 she was cast as the Thirteenth Doctor in seminal sci-fi series Doctor Who, which marked the first time a woman played the part. Whittaker’s work in the role has been praised and she will return for season 12 in 2020.

In 2017 she also appeared in British drama Journeyman, which starred and was directed by Paddy Considine. She also starred in the first series of medical drama Trust Me. Jodie Whittaker’s commitment to Doctor Who - which also includes voicing the character in video games - will be keeping her busy for the foreseeable future.
