John Krasinski has a great idea for a The Office reunion, and it could be just the thing to facilitate the tricky process of getting its stars back together. The much beloved, five-time Emmy winning series came to an end in 2013, after nine seasons.
Originally the brainchild of comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office began as a BBC mockumentary in 2001. Though it enjoyed much critical claim and tremendous praise from viewers, Gervais and Merchant made the decision early on to keep things simple and end the series after two seasons. The final episode of the series left many unanswered questions and fans were desperate for more. Fortunately, The Office returned for a two-part Christmas special in which all questions were answered and all loose ends tied up. Some two years later, Gervais and Merchant were on board to produce an American remake of the successful series. The American version of The Office was an instant hit with viewers and critics alike, and formed a vital launching point for the careers of Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson and of course, John Krasinski - to name but a few. Fans have been eager for a reunion for some time now, but to date little more than rumours have materialized.
But at least one of the stars of the famed comedy series is currently talking about the possibility of The Office reunion. Krasinski may have a very busy schedule these days, but the one-time star of The Office revealed he’s completely on board with the idea of a reunion, should it occur. Not only that, but Krasinski even has an idea of what a return to The Office could look like. In a recent interview with Esquire, Krasinski opened up about his love for the hit NBC sitcom, citing how it was and will always be one of, if not the biggest thing he’s ever done. And as far as a reunion goes, Krasinski had the following to say:
At the moment, Krasinski is getting set to release the highly anticipated sequel to A Quiet Place, the sci-fi horror film he wrote, directed and starred in alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. A Quiet Place 2 is currently set for a March 19 release and sees Krasinski return to his role as writer, director and star. The sequel looks to pick up where the first film left off, and so far the Quiet Place 2 trailer has been the subject of much intrigue. Whether or not the film will manage to attain the same tremendous degree of success as its predecessor is tough to say, but the fact that Krasinski has again remained involved in the film on all creative levels bodes well.
“The Office was absolutely everything to me. I mean it is my beginning and my end. I’m pretty sure at the end of my career I’ll still be known for Jim. That was my first experience with Hollywood. It was the first creative family I’ve ever had. In many ways, they will always be the most important people in that most important experience in my career. So yeah, if they did a reunion, I would absolutely love to do it.”
With the massive success the NBC sitcom enjoyed (and continues to enjoy), the idea of a Office reunion certainly isn’t difficult to conceive of. What’s more, Krasinski has likely hit the nail on the head with his suggestion that the American remake follow in the footsteps of its British predecessor. It would be difficult to organize so many different schedules for one full series, but an hour-long special could be just the thing for fans to find out where everyone is and what has occurred with The Office since 2013.
